Dr. Lam was raised in Dallas and finished his secondary education at Cistercian Preparatory School, where he graduated as Valedictorian. He completed his undergraduate studies at Princeton University graduating with a Cum Laude distinction, and his medical school at Baylor College of Medicine, where he received the distinction from his peers of the Bobby R. Cosmetic Surgery of the Asian Face was the first major textbook written on Asian facial plastic surgery in the English language with a book review advocating, "No surgeon should be performing Asian cosmetic facial procedures without reading this book and learning from this experienced surgeon."
