Artefill

Artefill

Artefill is a permanent injectable filler intended to fill in areas of facial deficiency.  Dr. Lam believes that Artefill, being a permanent filler, should be used with great caution, skill, and artistry.  At this time, Dr. Lam believes that Artefill can be used safely in the right hands and performs Artefill in younger patients primarily in the smile lines and marionette folds (as seen in the photograph).  He believes that in older patients that Artefill can be liberalized to be used more widely in the face.

Artefill uses bovine collagen as a carrier agent, which requires a skin test at least 28 days before use of the product.  Artefill consists of purified spheres of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) as the principal product for the permanent correction.  Because a component of the product is reabsorbable collagen, typically 2 to 3 rounds of treatments spaced at least 6 weeks apart is required to achieve full correction.  Although the product is permanent, changes with aging may require further treatments in the future but the baseline correction does not go away.
