Although there are many types of skin resurfacing methods out there, Dr. Lam prefers plasma skin resurfacing as his favored method for skin rejuvenation. In the past, he relied exclusively on chemical peels but they did not achieve deep enough collagen changes to provide both textural and long-term improvement to the skin that he desired. Carbon-dioxide laser is too strong in Dr. Lam's opinion and creates both a long-term recovery and unwanted long-term side-effects like skin color loss that is progressive over many years. He works with his laser center to provide both stronger "ablative" treatments (old skin is removed) that he performs and lighter "non-ablative" modalities (old skin spared) like fractionated technology (for those with less sun damage or desire less recovery) through his laser center.
