Step 2: Scheduling Your Procedure

Basics of Scheduling a Procedure

Most surgeries are scheduled 6 weeks in advance. Occasionally I can get someone in around 4 weeks. I couldn’t figure out why so many people were waiting until so close to surgery date until someone told me this. You will be asked for your ideal week of surgery and we will make every effort to meet your scheduling needs. Our staff will contact you within 3 business days to verify the date and time of your surgery and pre-op appointment.

A 20% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your surgery date. The remaining 80% of payment is required 2 weeks before the surgery date. The fee is $750 charged if there is a change less than 3 weeks prior to the procedure unless.

Surgical clearance may be required for patients over 45 years of age (or younger that have any chronic medical problems). If indicated, the office can fax a letter to your primary care physician with the tests that are necessary before your surgery. The cost of the visit and any labs/diagnostics are not included in the quote you are given by Dr. Lam. Planning ahead for this clearance can truly help you ensure that your desired surgery date is not delayed.

The Preoperative Appointment

This appointment is made approximately 3 weeks before the date of your surgery. You will meet with Dr. Lam to review the procedure, receive patient education material, and sign consents for the surgery. Our Preoperative Day is Thursday.

For out-of-town patients, the nurse will speak with you by phone to review your health history, medical clearance information, prescriptions, and anything else you need to know before your procedure. You should make arrangements to arrive mid-day the day before your surgery to sign all of your consents and take pre-op photos.

The Surgical Information Packet

You should take the time to familiarize yourself with the educational materials and consent forms that are associated with your procedure. Open the folder specific to your surgery. Download the documents and read them at least 2 weeks before your surgery. Some patient instructions involve the avoidance of medications or dietary products for up to 7 days before surgery. Call the office should you have any questions about the documents. You DO NOT need to bring these forms to the office.

If you are from out of town, all the information that you require to fly in for your visit can be found in our Hospitality Kit. If you have scheduled your procedure and are ready to plan your travel, proceed to our Travel Information page for more information. If you are from Dallas or farther away, you may still want to visit our Hospitality Kit since we can provide concierge service, transportation, hotel information (if you so desire), among other services that may make it easier for you around the time of your procedure.
