POSTOPERATIVE VIDEO COMPANION SERIES |
I created this new section as a companion to your postoperative instruction sheet and to the other two sections of this website that focus on your recovery period: “Video Recoveries & Journeys” and “Patient Video Diaries”. I oftentimes repeat some of the salient points of the instruction sheet to my patients many times because it is hard for them to remember what I told them and even what they have read. The video medium is unparalleled in helping to enhance communication and retention of communicated information. I will continue to repeat postoperative instructions numerous times as I believe that you cannot repeat information sufficiently to ensure that someone remembers it. Also, in anticipation of your procedure, you may also review these videos to reinforce the proposed postoperative course that you may undergo.
Although these short videos are not intended as a substitute for the thorough postoperative instruction sheets and in-office and by-phone consultations with me and my staff, I believe that this video companion series can provide very strong reinforcement of important information that you need to know following your procedure. The information contained within these videos serves two purposes: 1) to reinforce the information you need to know to avoid problems, identify problems, and to ensure a quick and comfortable recovery and 2) to alleviate the fear of uncertainty of the unknown.
I would highly recommend you, the patient, to review these videos the night of the procedure and perhaps even the next day or so to reinforce what is contained in the written postoperative instructions and verbal advice that my staff and I have already given to you. Also, if you should have any questions (I mean any questions whatsoever), please do not hesitate to contact my staff or me even after hours or on the weekends. I promise that you would not be bothering any of us; we are glad and honored to take care of you. It is important for you to call or communicate immediately with me any of your concerns that should arise following any procedure with me.
