This woman came to Dr. Lam two weeks prior to her daughter's wedding and wanted to look better for the special event. Given the very short time before the event, Dr. Lam could only perform an office-based procedure. He undertook Juvéderm and Restylane fillers to accomplish what he would have done with facial fat grafting (a permanent option), which the patient is planning to undertake after her daughter's wedding when the temporary fillers disappear in the coming months. The woman is shown before treatment and one week after injection with only minimal bruising along the left jawline. Dr. Lam used his laser to eliminate the bruise entirely within 48 hours.
Perhaps the most important element in planning your aesthetic enhancement procedure is to permit adequate time for recovery. The following table was created to facilitate your planning:
Hair Restoration Pertinent Information: Hair restoration requires a minimum of 6 months before noticeable hair growth occurs. For the first 6 weeks to 2 months you may actually have some noticeable thinning (which is temporary) before the hair begins to grow. Accordingly, Dr. Lam will not perform any hair restoration short of 6 months before a wedding event. Remember that both men and women lose hair and can have their hair restored for a beautiful and natural result. Recommended Time Frame: 6 months minimum and beyond, more time the better Facial Rejuvenation Procedures (Fat Grafting, Blepharoplasty, Facelift) & Rhinoplasty Pertinent Information: Surgical options for facial rejuvenation and rhinoplasty require some downtime for healing. In general, although the recovery can be relatively short, Dr. Lam does not recommend having a major procedure less than 2 months before a wedding event Recommended Time Frame: 2 months at a minimum and beyond, more time the better Otoplasty Pertinent Information: Otoplasty, or cosmetic correction of protuberant ears, can truly enhance one's appearance and the recovery is very minimal, even only a few days. However, Dr. Lam always recommends to permit as much time as possible before your wedding event and would still recommend nothing short of 2 months prior if at all possible. Recommended Time Frame: 2 months and beyond Botox & Injectable Fillers Pertinent Information: If you do not have much time to have a procedure done that requires a recovery phase, then an office-based procedure may be your best option. Also, some individuals are simply not desirous of having anything but an office-based procedure performed. In these cases, an office-based treatment is an ideal way to regain a youthful, vibrant look to the face without surgery. Dr. Lam's treatments are all without any pain and with minimal to no bruising. However, it is advisable to permit yourself some advanced planning for this procedure (see below). Recommended Time Frame: A minimum of two weeks before the wedding if possible. Ideally about one month prior to the wedding is preferred. More than 3 months before the wedding may permit the injectable filler or Botox to begin to fade. Dr. Lam usually does not have much bruising and can also eliminate most bruises within 48 hours after laser therapy (at no additional cost). If this is your first time having Botox, he recommends that you consider one cycle of Botox 6 months prior to the wedding so that he can gauge how you respond to Botox and thereby refine your effect. Plasma Skin Resurfacing Pertinent Information: Rhytec Portrait plasma skin resurfacing is intended for someone with deeper skin problems, i.e., significant sun damage, wrinkles, and poor skin texture. Recommended Time Frame: There is a one-week recovery time with plasma skin resurfacing. However, a light pinkness to the skin can persist for up to on month and rarely up to 6 weeks. Also, the rougher deeper skin texture requires oftentimes a minimum of 2 to 3 months to begin to become apparent. Accordingly, it is advisable to perform plasma skin resurfacing as many months before a wedding as possible with a recommended minimum time of 3 months prior to the wedding date. Other Laser & Skin Therapies at Luminaire Pertinent Information: Lighter skin therapies like PIXEL, fotofacials, microdermabrasion, mesotherapy, dermaculture and lighter chemical peels can be done very close to the date of the wedding. In fact, lighter skin therapies are recommended every month to two months from the time that you think about having them until the time of the wedding for optimal results. But even a single session of microdermabrasion and fotofacial therapy can help make the skin look radiant for your big day. For more information, visit www.luminairelaser.com. Recommended Time Frame: A week before the wedding (depending on the type of treatment) and beyond |
