PLASMA RESURFACING, LASER REJUVENATION, CHEMICAL PEELING, DERMABRASION

The state-of-the-art technology for skin rejuvenation today is plasma resurfacing. Unlike older laser technology in which recovery times can be quite long and risk loss of skin color, today plasma offers the same level of deep skin rejuvenation with a recovery time of less than a week and without evidence to date (over 5 years of studies) of loss of skin color. In addition, the settings can be adjusted for even a shorter recovery time of a weekend, which would require three treatment sessions spaced a month apart for optimal rejuvenation. Not only are deeper wrinkles, uneven skin texture and tone, and other blemishes immediately improved but also there is ongoing improvement over the following year, as new collagen is awakened and grows. Dr. Lam also relies on other treatment techniques as an adjunct and as indicated for each individual. He has the full gamut of laser technology to provide "no-downtime" options for skin rejuvenation and to eliminate broken blood vessels and other smaller skin problems. He uses intense blue light to improve acne eruptions and 100% TCA known as CROSS treatments to ameliorate acne scarring. At times, he combines other techniques like chemical peeling and dermabrasion to improve limited areas of wrinkling and scarring, respectively. SURGIWIRE

Have you ever cut cheese with a wire? That is what the new Surgiwire accomplishes. The revolutionary Surgiwire releases the skin attachment to the deeper tissues so that you have possibly a permanent correction of your smile lines, lip lines, and scars, which only takes a few minutes, requires no incision, and can be done as an office procedure. Not everyone is a candidate for this procedure. Dr. Lam has to assess the quality of your facial lines to see your eligibility. Also, some people may still require additional skin fillers after the Surgiwire. However, the individual who is a candidate for the Surgiwire usually would not benefit from a filler owing to the nature of their smile line. Oftentimes, the Surgiwire converts a difficult to fill line or crease into a very easy to fill one.

RADIESSE

Radiesse (formerly Radiance FN) offers the hope of clinical longevity (1 to 2 years). It is biocompatible and ultimately biodegradable. Radiesse is made of calcium hydroxyapatite, which is a naturally occurring substance in the human body. However, it is synthetic, i.e., it is not derived from human or animal tissue, so that there is no risk of infectious transmission. It is an ideal treatment for deep lines, wrinkle, and volume contouring/replacement.

PERLANE

Perlane is the newest member of the Restylane family. Perlane is a longer lasting version of Restylane that is intended for volume filling along with correcting deeper lines and folds like the Smile Lines or Marionette or Puppet Lines. Perlane works well for the lips especially for those in whom Restylane or Juvederm do not last long enough. However, owing to its thickness, Perlane can feel somewhat harder in the lips. Perlane is not intended for fine lines or thin wrinkles. Restylane is preferred for this purpose. Perlane is expected to last between 6 months to a year.

RESTYLANE

With the FDA approval of Restylane, Dr. Lam is excited to offer this natural, safe filler that is not derived from an animal or human source. Restylane typically provides 5 to 7 months of enhancement for volume deficient areas such as the lips, smile lines, among other facial zones. This superior product can be combined with other fillers, such as Radiesse, for optimal enhancement. A private consultation with Dr. Lam will help establish which filler is ideal for you.

Captique, like Restylane, is a non-animal, hyaluronic acid product that works exceptionally well for lip augmentation. Captique provides temporary enhancement for various facial zones. Its unparalleled smoothness makes it Dr. Lam's preferred method for temporary lip enhancement. He oftentimes combines Captique with Restylane and Radiesse for the optimal effect. The latest member to the hyaluronic acid (HA) family that provides a smooth and durable result that may prove to be the standard in HA care. Recently FDA approved in June 2006 for use in the United States, Juvéderm has had extensive experience throughout Europe. Dr. Lam is one of the few select physicians in the United States that have been chosen as part of the Juvéderm Experience Trial by Allergan to use Juvéderm prior to its official release in January 2007.

SCULPTRA

Sculptra is a product designed to restore facial fat loss in the aging or diseased face. FDA approved in August 2004 for HIV-related facial fat loss known as lipoatrophy, Sculptra has also been used successfully to help restore the volume loss that is associated with the aging process of the face. Performed in more than 150,000 patients worldwide in over 30 countries since 1999, Sculptra has shown reliable volume enhancement. Sculptra is made of poly-L-lactic acid, a material used in dissolvable surgical sutures for many years. The product is placed in the skin and creates a tissue response of collagen production to thicken depressed and hollow areas of the face. While the collagen begins to grow, the Sculptra product is gradually resorbed by the body. The collagen growth takes several weeks to a month to show a cosmetic benefit and may require more than one treatment session to achieve the desired result. In the FDA approved studies, the cosmetic effect was shown to last in the majority of patients beyond two years in duration. Unlike Restylane and Radiesse that are used to fill specific defects (narrow lips, deep smile lines, depressed scars, etc.), Sculptra provides overall volume enhancement to the face. Each session requires only a few minutes to perform and is typically associated with very little recovery time.

SILICONE MICRO

Silicone Micro injections provide natural, full enhancement of lips, deep facial lines, nasal defects, and select kinds of acne scarring. Dr. Lam uses only the highest quality medical-grade product for facial enhancement. Using micro injections helps ensure that the treated area remains soft and natural when touched, and repeated sessions are oftentimes necessary to arrive at the desired effect, which is effectively permanent.

SKIN LESIONS

At times, creams, lasers, and other skin therapies cannot remove certain undesirable lesions. For example, a "mole" is often a deeper structure that cannot be easily burned or lasered away. What you oftentimes see is just the tip of the iceberg so to speak. Dr. Lam recommends evaluation of any suspicious lesion by a board-certified dermatologist. However, lesions that do not appear to have changed, grown, or bled can be removed as a short office procedure in which the entirety of the lesion is removed not just part of it.
