Top 10 Things People Worry about After a Fat Transfer (During the Recovery Period)

Top 10 Things People Worry about After a Fat Transfer (During the Recovery Period)

When I call one of my patients the night following a fat transfer procedure, I usually mention the top few things that can make them alarmed that will resolve over the period of the next couple of weeks.  Here is that list:

  1. Your cheeks will look like chipmunks.  That will resolve.
  2. Your cheeks and parts of your face will feel hard. That will resolve.
  3. You will not be able to smile well due to the hardness in your face. That will resolve.
  4. Your brows will look like Neanderthals. That will resolve.
  5. Your lips will look “like an old lady’s”, i.e., thinner. That will resolve.
  6. Your folds near your mouth can look worse. That will resolve.
  7. Your chin can look like Jay Leno’s or be in a shape that you do not like. That will resolve.
  8. Your face may look larger on one side or another. That will resolve.
  9. Your face will swell more in a day or so and can even fluctuate in size for the first 7 to 10 days. That will resolve.
  10. You will not recognize yourself. That will resolve.

As you see from the litany above, all things will resolve over time.
