Botox Jaw Reduction
Through a simple injection of Botox along the jawline (which does not hurt), Dr. Lam can shrink down the heavy, angular look that creates facial disharmony. Also, certain habits can predispose toward a stronger flared look like TMJ/grinding one's teeth, excessive clenching, biting hard candies, or chewing gum frequently. It oftentimes takes about 4 to 6 weeks to notice a difference and the result can last 6 to 12 months, longer than typical Botox because the injection concentration is much higher. It might also facilitate breaking a bad habit of clenching or chewing excessively. Some studies have shown that a 2nd dose followed in 6 to 9 months after the first dose could lead to longer lasting results or even relative permanence. That claim however is not entirely well documented. Other techniques to reduce the jawline shape include bone shaving. Dr. Lam does not perform this procedure, and believes that the loss of the shape of the outer jawbone can be unattractive and resemble the curved shape of an animal jawbone.
